For most of us, a life is made up of so many small, quiet, and often beautiful moments. In this sweet picture by Herbert Arnould Olivier, we see the Holy Family one late afternoon, Mary holding and chatting to the baby, with Joseph kneeling before them, fashioning a stick to hold up a lily. They are in the midst of lilies, which symbolize purity. And if you look closely, you’ll see that the stick Joseph is using is actually a small cross. But that is a long time away, and at the moment things are tranquil and beautiful.

Herbert Arnould Olivier (1861-1952) was a British artist, who, according to the Tate Museum, was best known for his portrait and landscape paintings. He had a long and successful career in art. He was the uncle of the actor Lawrence Olivier.

We decorate our vestibule at our parish, St. Mary's in Lincoln, with Catholic art we frame. This picture is going to go by one of the doors from the vestibule into the sanctuary, echoing the door in the picture, as we go from darkness into the light and life of Jesus and Mary. - Sue Kouma Johnson

Please note: The image is smaller than the paper There is a white border of about 1.3" for 8.5x11" pictures. Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.- Sue Kouma Johnson, text and image restoration.

Emily L. ★★★★★

The late afternoon light in this print is so soft it makes the whole room feel calmer. I put it above our kitchen table, and the way Mary holds the child reminds me of quiet evenings with my own kids. The canvas itself has a nice texture, not shiny or cheap-looking.

Daniel ★★★★★

I hung this in our hallway where the late afternoon light hits it, and the muted colors in that scene of Mary holding the child look even warmer in person. The canvas arrived tightly rolled with no creases, and it only took a few minutes to settle flat once framed.

Claire A. ★★★★★

The muted warm tones in this print are even calmer in person, perfect for the hallway nook by our bedroom. It arrived rolled tight with no creases, and the canvas has a nice soft matte look under lamplight. Mary holding the child feels so tender that I keep stopping to look at it.
